Connect a custom domain

Serve your portfolio or website at your own domain, such as yourname.com, with two DNS records.

Paid plansUpdated

Once your domain is connected, your portfolio or website opens at it instead of xposureapp.net/@username. Custom domains come with Starter, Pro and Studio.

Add the domain

  1. Open Portfolio and find Custom domain.
  2. Type your domain without https://, such as yourname.com or www.yourname.com.
  3. Select Save changes at the bottom of the page. The domain shows as Pending DNS with the two records to add.

Add the DNS records

At the company that runs your domain's DNS, add both records exactly as shown:

Type Host Value
CNAME, or ANAME / ALIAS for a root domain the host shown, such as www, or @ proxy.xposureapp.net
TXT _xposure-verify the code starting xposure-verify=
  • A root domain such as yourname.com cannot use a CNAME. If your provider has no ANAME or ALIAS option, connect www.yourname.com instead.
  • Some providers want the full TXT host, such as _xposure-verify.yourname.com.
  • If your DNS is on Cloudflare, an Add to Cloudflare button may appear. It adds both records for you.

Important: Keep the CNAME or ALIAS record DNS only. On Cloudflare that is the grey cloud. A proxied record hides where it points, and the check can fail.

Verify

  1. Back in Custom domain, select Verify.
  2. The page shows which record is still missing and checks again every 30 seconds for 15 minutes while it is open.
  3. After that, Xposure checks every 30 minutes and emails you when the domain connects.

New records usually show within minutes. Once it says Verified, the domain can take up to an hour to load the first time.

What moves to your domain

  • Your portfolio or website, its pages, posts and portfolio albums.
  • Gallery links you send to clients and the links in gallery emails.
  • Your booking link.

Your xposureapp.net/@username address keeps working. Only the address you entered is connected: yourname.com and www.yourname.com are two different domains.

Leave the TXT record in place. If it disappears, the domain disconnects and you get an email. To remove the domain, select Clear, then Save changes. A downgrade to the Free plan removes it too.
