Free tools for photographers

Tools for the parts of the job that have nothing to do with taking pictures. What your gallery platform is really costing you, how many photos to promise, what to charge, what happens when it rains, and why your portfolio takes six seconds to load. No account, no email address, nothing stored.

Built for questions with money attached

Most free photography tools answer questions you can already answer. These deal with the decisions that quietly cost you the most: what your platform is really charging you, what to promise a client in writing, what to put on a pricing guide, what an hour of your time actually earns, what happens when a shoot falls through, and what is making your portfolio slow.

Each one gives you something you can act on the same day. A cost comparison with the dates and sources attached. A delivery range you can paste into a contract. A pricing guide ready to send. A policy your clients will actually read. The filename of the photo that is slowing your site down.

Private by design

  • No account, ever. Nothing here asks for an email address, and no result is held back behind one.
  • Your figures never leave your browser. Every calculation runs on your own machine, so your prices, your client numbers and your income are never transmitted to us or to anyone else. The portfolio speed check is the one exception, and it says so on its own page: it needs our server to fetch the page you are asking about.
  • Yours to use commercially. Print the pricing guide, send the policy to a client, put either in front of whoever you like. No watermark, no attribution.

More reading

The Xposure blog covers the same ground at more length, and most of these tools were built alongside a post. If you are weighing up platforms rather than costing them, the comparison pages go feature by feature.

Common questions

Do I need an account to use these?
No. There is no sign-up, no email gate and no trial. Every tool runs as soon as the page loads, and you can print or copy the result without giving us anything.
Where does my data go?
Every tool except one does its work entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is sent anywhere and we could not recover it if you asked. The exception is the portfolio speed check, which has to use our server because your browser cannot fetch and measure somebody else’s page. That one logs the hostname and whether the check worked, and nothing else.
Is there a catch?
No. Every tool is complete and free to use as often as you like, and none of them holds a result back behind an email address. The portfolio speed check is limited to five runs an hour, because each one costs somebody else’s server a page load. Xposure builds client gallery and booking software for photographers, and these are the parts of the job we get asked about most, so we built them properly and left them open.
How current are the competitor prices in the cost calculator?
Every price is read off the vendor’s own pricing page and carries the date it was verified, and we re-check quarterly. Where a vendor does not publish a figure, such as Pic-Time’s commission rates, the tool says so rather than estimating.
Can I use the results with my clients?
Yes. The pricing guide and the cancellation policy are both built to go straight to a client, and both print to PDF with no Xposure logo, name or attribution anywhere on the page. What you send is your document, not ours.
