What the pricing page does not make obvious
Unlimited storage is the entry-level feature, not the premium one
Direct, the cheapest plan, already includes unlimited storage. Every tier above it adds commerce and customisation instead of capacity. That inverts how almost every competitor prices, and it means the usual "how many gigabytes do I need" calculation does not apply here.
You cannot sell anything on the cheapest plan
Print and digital download sales start on Portfolio. If selling is part of why you are shopping, Direct is not a candidate and your real entry price is $23.50/mo billed annually rather than $20.
Client favouriting and download limits are a Pro feature
Client favouriting and customer download limits sit on Pro, the $37/mo tier. On most gallery-first platforms those are entry-level delivery features, so a photographer comparing on price alone can end up comparing very different feature sets.
Plans are advertised on annual billing
The prices SmugMug shows are per month billed annually. Budget for a year up front rather than a monthly commitment when comparing against platforms that headline a monthly rate.
