I am Lotte.
I trained as a midwife’s assistant before I picked up a camera, and I still think of the first weeks as something to protect, not direct. I live in Ghent with my partner and two children, and I photograph about forty families a year.
The process
How a session goes
We talk on the phone first, about the baby, the house and the light. On the day I arrive with one camera and no lights, and we start with whoever has the least patience. Nothing is staged. About three weeks later you get a private gallery, where you heart the photographs for your album and send them to me.
From the families
She sat on our floor for three hours and our son slept through almost all of it. The photos of his hands are on every wall.
I did not want maternity photos. Now the window ones are my favourite pictures of myself.
